The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) said that the drug-resistant flu strains increased last year, and called for less use or NO use of the typical anti-flu (antiviral) drugs.  Amantadine and Rimantadine  Symmetrel and Flumadine, respectively, as well as tamiflu, are becoming ineffective.  January 14, 2006, the Centers for Disease Control said the studies were indicating 91 percent resistance in the samples of flu isolates.  They stated that doctors should immediately STOP prescribing and using these antiviral drugs.  The Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York said dthat most of the reports fwas the mis use and over use of these antiviral drugs.
In other words, STOP using these antivirals.
In my opinion, the average General Practitioner Physician, UNLESS he or she does laboratory testing on the "germ" which is causing the illness, should in NO CASES prescribe any antiviral simply because it "looks" like the flu.
This is also the reason why antibiotics no longer are effective, and persons in hospitals are getting drug-resistant strains .  Reuters news service said on Feb 1, 2006 that China had 3 in 4 strains of flu exhibiting resistance.
Goes to show that my newsletter suggesting large amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin D in the form of cholecalciferol was the better choice to build the immune system.
